AFC Clayton Juniors have received a fantastic new boost – by way of a new team kit provided by SponsorBank – at no cost to the club.
This is a happy end to what was a miserable story reported by the Manchester Evening News.
The MEN reported on the 10th January that the luckless juniors had been left high and dry, without a team kit. They had paid £535 to a kit supplier in Manchester in September, but before our involvement, had not received their kit or a refund.
SponsorBank director Allistair Carmichael read our article and contacted the coach, Brian Kennerley.
Allistair said “When I read the article I immediately saw that the lads had been let down, and we are there to provide kit and equipment to grass roots sports. So it was just a case of right place, right time.

SponsorBank not only provide sports equipment, but also give advice and assistance to grass roots organisations on ways of saving money, raising sponsorship and securing other funding. They have now forged a relationship with AFC Clayton and will continue to support the club.

A delighted Brian said “Thanks to the MEN we got our money back, but when Allistair offered a new kit free of charge I was amazed. It’s a new beginning – it’s given us a real lift. We always say if you get a kit on the kids it looks like a new team!”

Swim for Kit Kids
Rossendale United Junior FC can’t be accused of ‘sitting on their backsides’ when it comes to fundraising. On Friday 24th March, with the help of main event sponsor SponsorBank, the footy stars of the future took to the water at Marl Pits Pool, Rawtenstall in a bid to raise funds for new kit and equipment.
Fifty or more junior team members accompanied by parents and club officials swam 200 lengths of the pool cheered on by their team mates. Once all the sponsorship money is collected the event is expected to raise more than £1,000.

Jason Straccia, Rossendale United Junior FC’s Community Officer: “We are a big club that needs to raise quite a bit of money to maintain our high standards. We encourage our children and young people to be a part of this process rather than rely on handouts. The Swim For Kits event was more than just a fund raiser, it was an opportunity for all of our ‘football family’ to come together and have some fun. We are grateful to SponsorBank, as main sponsors of the event, and also to the many sponsors of our children.”

SponsorBank Director Paul Marr: “As a company, whose customer base is grass roots sports, we are delighted to be able to support self help initiatives such as Swim For Kits. The participants had a ‘whale of a time’ and at the same time raised much needed funds for their club.”

The Glen Service Station sponsor Sunderland Nissan v Rossendale United FC

Rossendale United may be forgiven for thinking, before the game, that the odds were stacked against them in the FA Cup Preliminary Round fixture against Sunderland Nissan on Saturday 27th August 2005.
SponsorBank arranged for local Nissan Authorised Repair Centre, Glen Service Station, to sponsor the match, where the referee was Japanese and half of the cars in the car park were Nissan models.
Glen Service Station Director Asif Patel was ‘torn’ about which club to support, “ I am new to the Rossendale area and our business is keen to support local clubs. We have benefited from the knowledge SponsorBank has of the community, and their efforts to work with us to gain maximum return on our investment. The prospect of sponsoring this particular match left us with a dilemma. My local club, or the club supported by my business partners? Fortunately the honours were even at Dark Lane with both clubs given the opportunity to fight on in the replay on Wednesday.“
The Glen Service Station used the game to show off to supporters, some of their vehicles, and the services they offer. No doubt some of the Sunderland Nissan party had actually made the cars on display!
